Autocross Events

Do you have a grocery getter?

600hp muscle car?

Exotic supercar or a tuner with a 4 gallon turbo?

Most cars have a place in autocross racing, regardless of horsepower. With autocross, every drive helps you to develop new skills and learn new things about your vehicle.

What is Autocross?

Autocross is the largest amateur motorsport racing event in the world!

Autocross was developed in the United States of America. Events are typically held on flat, paved surfaces such as parking lots or airport tarmacs, and usually have a new course for each event, marked by traffic cones.

Autocross is one of the most accessible and affordable forms of motorsport, and autocross events are open to novices. Because autocross events use rubber traffic cones to define the course, and are typically run on paved surfaces with few obstructions, the hazards and barriers to entry are low. While speeds are generally no greater than those encountered in legal highway driving, the combination of concentration and precision maneuvering gives drivers an experience similar to that of a full road course race.

What is an Autocross event is like at Western Speedpark?

Autocross at Western Speedpark is held on the tarmac that was once a military runway. The course is laid out with traffic cones on a large portion of asphalt. Unlike dedicated circuit tracks, autocross at Western Speedpark is far away from solid objects that could damage your car in the event of losing control. This means if you spin out or go off track, the only thing to hit are small pylons or traffic cones.

Competitors range from casual participants driving their commuter vehicles, to dedicated competitors driving purpose-built cars with racing tires. There are classes accommodating varying degrees of car modification. Cars are required to meet a minimal inspection at race entry, they will not be permitted to race if deemed necessary. To see these guidelines, please check out the Tech Inspection Checklist.

What is it like to participate in an Autocross event?

  1. Race day morning; show up and go through registration.
  2. Following immediately, your car (to be raced) will be inspected to make sure it meets our basic safety requirements.
  3. Following this, there will be a mandatory safety meeting and track walkthrough. The track walk allows you to memorize the course before racing, view any hazards and plan your drive accordingly!
  4. Then it’s off to racing! One at a time, each car will compete on the course, with the goal of setting a personal fastest time and having as much fun as possible!

Some enthusiasts like to race competitively, some like to see what their cars are capable of and some just want to shred tires! Everybody has a spot behind the wheel at Autocross!!!
